While money is still a primary motivator, the number of fake websites designed to accept payment for hospitals and web based businesses is going up exponentially. Cyber crime is however, rapidly expanding from just being about money to corporate/state sponsored espionage and ideology. It was to release the information of donors who contributed to Go Fund Me campaigns that the attackers disagreed with ideologically. A mother in CA was arrested for attempting to hire hackers to dox the school union members who were still opposed to opening up for face to face learning.
